A French drain is a weeping tile that collects excessive water inside and outside of the house. Typical areas of use are waterproofing projects to enhance water drainage using gravel and weeping tiles connected to the
sump pump or storm drain line.
A French drain is also commonly used for retaining walls and parking spaces, window wells, low lying areas to collect excess water and reduce ponding and water deterioration of the foundation.
Installation of the weeping tile should be near the foundation's bottom and have a cushion of 3/4 gravel around to avoid shifts, damage, and clogging of the weeping tile.
The weeping tile should also be covered in a special sleeve all the way; it helps filtration and early clogging of the weeping tile. The french drain position in low lying area or high water table, where water tends to collect or needs extra care, is critical.
It is recommended to have the drain specialist's installation as many projects include aspects that might be neglected and become an ineffective solution for water drainage.
